B-C’s Forestry critic welcomes the province’s decision to give special mediators Amanda Rogers and Vince Ready additional powers to help settle a strike at Western Forest Products.
Liberal John Rustad is hopeful they’ll be able to help the company and Steelworkers Union reach agreement through collective bargaining.
“The question is, why did the government allow the anguish, pain and suffering to go on for so long in the communities on the island if they were prepared to go to this step,” he said. “They should have done this in October or November of last year.”
If the two sides can’t reach a deal, the mediators will recommend terms for a settlement, which they can accept or reject.
