Sewer and water rates will be going up to cover the increased costs of the sewage lagoon project.
Director of Engineering and Public Works Wilf Taekema said the project is 70% complete, and “there’s a lot on the line that this gets done”.
Council was asked for another $10 million, bringing the total cost of the project to $37.9 million.
Mayor Sharie Minions says council will have to look closely at the numbers to determine how much sewer rates will have to rise.
“The debt servicing for the additional borrowing will have to come from sewer and water fees, so if sewer fees go up and by how much is yet to be determind by council, and there will be more discussion going forward on that,” she said.
She said council looks at sewer and water rates after the budget is completed in the Spring.
