Drag racers will take one last shot at restoring the Thunder in the Valley event at the Alberni Valley Regional Airport today.
They’re asking for a 3-year deal to hold the races at the airport, which will allow them to earn enough money to construct a purpose-built drag strip for future races.
Regional District staff are already recommending the Alberni Valley and Bamfield Services Committee directors deny the application at their meeting this afternoon, citing insurance issues, and provincial opposition to the event.
Racers have said they are working with the City of Port Alberni on a couple of options to hold their event within city limits, but declined to provide specific details.
