The annual Salvation Army Christmas kettle campaign has wrapped up for another year.
With forestry strikes and shutdowns, the need for assistance was high for many local families.
Captain Michael Ramsay of the Port Alberni Minitries says volunteers helped raise $75,000 locally, not quite the $100,000 they hoped for, but enought to provide hampers for 1000 families.
“It’s been a tough year for the community with the strike, so the $75,000 raised will go a long way to provide for those in need, and we’re so thankful to everyone who pitched in,” he said.
Ramsay said hamper requests were up by 15% this year, but thanks to donations a food, toys and money, they were able to meet the requests
