Lower Third Avenue was blocked off for hours last night after a woman was killed while crossing the busy street.
Police say the woman was not in a marked cross walk as she walked out into traffic between Bute and Burde streets at 5:30 and was struck by a northbound SUV.
Witnesses and bystanders in the area provided emergency first aid to the woman until first responders arrived, but she died of her injuries at the scene.
The driver of the SUV was not impaired and was not injured in the collision, and is cooperating with police.
RCMP and the BC Coroner Service continue to investigate.
