City budget presentations continue today, with outside contractors presenting their financial plans.
BC Transit, the SPCA and Industrial Heritage Society will explain to council how they use taxpayers money to provide services to the city.
Mayor Minions said IHS volunteers continue to work on the famous Baldwin steam engine, and council is committed to getting the train back on the tracks.
“We’re optimistic that not only will the train be running, but we will have an operating budget for it as well and that budget will be with more of a business case in mind and some numbers around it, and we’re looking forward to seeing what comes over the next couple of months,” she said.
Minions said the city is responsible for the tracks between the train station and Stamp Avenue, and they have met with the Island Corridor Foundation, who own the tracks and trestles on the rest of the line.
The meeting begins at 6 o’clock tonight.
