West Coast Canna says they’re going to start looking at other options after their proposed cannabis campus was blocked by Sproat Lake residents.
Company spokesperson Angie Fernandez said her family is disappointed that due to public pressure, Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District directors have legislated large-scale cannabis production out of rural lands.
“It’s very dissappointing. It’s definitely rooted in a lot of stigma and a lot of fear,” she said. “Considering there’s a hugely vocal group of people that are very, very loud about this topic, I can understand while the government is choosing to take this approach.”
Fernandez said they are looking at other places around the island but also within the Alberni Valley to try and develop a cannabis micro-cultivation hub because they believe in their business model and think it’s only a matter of time before communities come on board.
