The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce is backing cannabis cultivation.
Chamber CEO Bill Collette has submitted a letter to the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District, urging board members to approve a pair of major cannabis growing facilities, one in Beaver Creek, the other in the Sproat Lake region near the airport.
Collette believes the facilities will be state-of-the-art with no odour and high security.
He warns that refusing investment sends a poor message out to other possible investors, and by refusing jobs the ACRD is denying existing businesses new residents and their incomes.
Regional District board members will discuss the letter at their meeting today before a hosting a public meeting on the issue in November.
