The city will be opening a public safety office in the uptown area, which will house the bylaw services department and community policing.
A proposal last year to move the RCMP Community Police office from the Harbour Quay to the Bread of Life building fell through due to security concerns.
City CAO Tim Pley said this building will not house any RCMP computers or personnel.
“When you have a community policing building and it houses RCMP members, or their computers, or their support staff, there are rigorous security requirements that come into play,” he said.
Pley said the city is currently searching for a location for the public safety office, and the budget will come from the policing reserve fund, and should not affect the budget.
