Cannabis stores open in Alberni

Port Alberni’s first retail cannabis stores opened yesterday.

The BC Cannabis store owned by the provincial government opened at Pacific Rim Mall is the third retail cannabis store on the island.

Kevin Satterfield, the director of retail operations for BC Cannabis stores said the Port Alberni store is somewhat unique, in that it has three bud tables and “has one of the best views I’ve ever seen when you’re exiting the store”.

The Tseshaht First Nation celebrated the opening of their retail cannabis store yesterday as well.

Tseshaht Councillor Ken Watts says they’re targetting tourist traffic as well as locals, and they hope locals will support their private retail outlet ahead of the provincial store.

The provincial store hired 16 people, while the Tseshaht store employs 5 of their members.
Satterfield said the next BC Cannabis store will open in the Oceanside area before Nanaimo.
