The City of Port Alberni wants to know your thoughts on cannabis production and retail outlets.
Mayor Sharie Minions said while some city bylaws are already in place, the pungest smell of pot production has become an issue of concern in many neighbourhoods.
She said the city is embracing the new industry but they want to make sure they’re in step with community needs.
An open house will happen next week, and an information booth will be set up at the Fall Fair, where people will be urged to participate in an online survey that will guide council’s decisions around cannabis production and sales.
Cannabis legalization has kept federal, provincial and municipal governments busy with the roll-out, and much of the responsibility has been given to cities.
While there’s still confusion about cannabis production and the selling of pot, oils and edibles, the City is looking to bring some clarity to the issue and has launched an information campaign.
The online survey was launched last Tuesday and closes on September 13th.
