Overdoses linked to stronger street drugs have spiked this month, leading Island Health to issue an overdose advisory.
The stronger-than-usual drugs were first identified in Victoria last week, but may have arrived in Port Alberni and other up-island cities.
This morning, paramedics were called to the Harbourview Apartments where a man required 7 doses of Narcan after a suspected heroin overdose.
Island Health says drugs can be tested at an overdose prevention site before use.
