Water samples taken last week at Canal Waterfront Park showed a return to clean water, but according to Island Health’s Heather Hutton, the beach remains closed to swimming until another round of tests is completed.
“The initial results were very high, and one of the follow-up results was very high as well,” she said. “We usually wait until a calculation can be done to show that the overall risk has been lowered. It is anticipated that it will be lifted before the long-weekend.”
Two weeks ago, water tests showed enterococci levels at Canal Waterfront Park were almost three times the acceptable limit.
Those levels have since dropped to almost zero as officials continue to search for a possible source of the high count.
