Cathedral Grove options

Expanding the existing parking or making a pedestrian overpass have emerged as the two contenders to fix congestion at Cathedral Grove.

The popular tourist spot along Highway 4 sees roughly half a million visitors a year and parking consistently overflows to create dangerous situations for pedestrians.

A long-in-the-works report detailed six options for consideration, also including new parking spots dotted throughout the area and a complete bypass of the Grove.

Of the six options presented, expanding and renovating the current parking lots is the easiest and affects the area the least.

However it would require a centre barrier to stop people from running across the road and drivers pulling U-turns, so U-turn routes would have to be built on either side of the grove.

The public now has until the end of July to provide further input on these suggestions.
