Christmas is still 6 months away, but the School District is already preparing their wish list.
From playgrounds to roofs, LED lights to heating systems, the district has asked the province for $2.3 million in Alberni school projects, which doesn’t include the tens of millions of dollars required for seismic upgrades according to Director of Operations Greg Roe.
“We’re going to be seeking seismic upgrade funding for every elementary school in the valley except for Maquinna which had a substantial seismic upgrade in the past few years, so it’s in good condition,” he said.
Roe says the Ministry of Education probably won’t fund all of the requests, but will choose a few priority projects for the upcoming fiscal year.
Last week the provincial government announced $45 million to do seismic upgrades at Ucluelet Secondary School.
