The final report on homelessness was presented to city council yesterday.
The culmination of years of study, coordinator Terry Deakin says despite many projects and agencies working in the area, homelessness continues to be an issue.
She said the rising cost of housing, renovictions, and little increase in provincial income support are some of the many issues that contribute to homelessness.
Deakin says she’s disappointed there is no more funding for the coordinator position, and recommends the city and regional district make the issue a priority.
She said the regional district should form a housing commission to implement recommendations from the report, or the city should add the issue of homelessness to the mandate of their social planning commission.
