ACRD employees vote to strike

The Regional District’s unionized employees have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action, after negotiations broke down earlier this month.

CUPE Local 118 president Stacy Watton says money is not the issue, but is about security and benefits for casual and temporary employees.

Wotton said negotiations could resume on Monday, and if those talks are unsuccessful employees will begin an overtime ban, and a work to rule campaign.

ACRD CAO Doug Holmes said he’s hopeful issues can be resolved when talks resume on Monday.

The ACRD has 26 unionized employees, and increased job action could begin next week.
