Port Alberni City Council is working better than they did in the past two terms, according to the Mayor and many councillors.
While the past two terms often became mired with infighting, Mayor Sharie Minions said she learned from her previous 4 years on council and has worked to bring everyone together as a team.
“We’ve made that a priority to get to know each other and why we’re all here, and I think that’s made a huge difference,” she said.
Veteran councillor Cindy Solda says communication between mayor and council is critical.
“Within the last eight years I didn’t think there was much communication between the mayor and council,” she said.
Solda said she appreciates that Mayor Minions brings issues to council before speaking publicly about them, recognizing that they’re all working towards the betterment of the community.
Last week, Mayor and Council held a 2-day strategic planning retreat at Cedarwood Lodge along with city staff.
Minions said more work needs to be done before council can release their strategic plan, but they’re off to a good start.
