City Council went through their project wish list yesterday, and quickly exceeded their budget.
With $665,000 in discretionary funds, they picked $1.3 million in priorities – double their budget
Mayor Sharie Minions said the first project selection meeting of the budget cycle is always difficult, and council now has some tough choices to make.
Council discussed the police budget at some length, choosing to rescind the last council’s motion to decrease the police force by one member this year, and to shift the Crime Prevention Officer back into policing, hiring a civilian to take over CrimeStoppers and other preventative programs.
Some of the big projects picked include $290,000 for police, $200,000 to fix the Gertrude Street bridge over Roger Creek, and $165,000 to repave the multiplex parking lot.
