City to fund security initiatives

Businesses will be able to beef up security with the help of city hall.

The Enhanced Security Initiative will provide matching grants up to $1000 for security enhancements like video surveillance, exterior lighting and door locks for local businesses.

Bylaw Manager Flynn Scott says city-funded camera systems could assist police with investigations.

Flynn says he will review the applications with the RCMP to target areas with higher crime rates.

Businesses have until February 21st to apply for funding.
