City Staff have been asked to mediate between the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce and local hoteliers.
The Chamber wants to bring all hoteliers on board to collect a 2% marketing tax similar to every other island community.
Money collected would then go towards marketing the Valley through online videos, magazine ads, and pamphlets.
Best Western Barclay owner Peter Mugglestone said they were involved in a similar program to collect a hotel tax but pulled out 6 years ago when they found out more than half the money went to hire a coordinator.
Mugglestone said four hotels continue to collect the 2% and spend the full $90,000 a year on marketing the valley
Chamber Manager Bill Collette says if all hotels and AirBnB operators participated, they could bring in upwards of $300,000 a year.
Both sides agreed to work towards a new agreement.
