The city’s bylaw department is rolling out a new approach to battle graffiti.
Owners of properties with graffiti will be contacted by a bylaw officer and offered a free can of paint and a brush to get rid of the graffiti.
Bylaw Services Manager Flynn Scott says if they refuse they’ll be fined $200 and a contractor will be brought in to do the painting at the property owners expense.
He says property owners who have graffiti on their buildings can come in to city hall and register for a voucher, or if they receive a notice from a bylaw officer they will have one week to comply.
Scott says his officers are working with police to identify prolific taggers and vandals and have them arrested.
