Bylaw Services improve with more staff

The city’s bylaw office is a busy place after the addition of two new officers last year.

Calls are up significantly and the completion rate has also improved as the three officers are now able to become proactive, and not just respond to submitted complaints.

Mayor Sharie Minions says there is increased public confidence in the expanded bylaw department

“I think that when people begin to see that their calls are being addressed then more people will start to call in because they know that we want to address those issues and they’re seeing progress,” she said.

There were 659 files opened last year, which is a 37% increase over the 480 in 2017, and the completion rate rose from 61% to 86%

6 nuisance properties are a focus of the bylaw department, with the high-profile Arrowview Hotel expected to be demolished in March or April of this year.
