A new emergency notification system will soon be available to everyone in the Alberni Valley.
The Connect Rocket Emergency Notification System has undergone testing within Alberni – Clayoquot Regional District staff for the past few months, and the board of directors have agreed to pay for the system to go public.
They predict upwards of 10,000 people will sign up for the service once it becomes available, at a cost of $9600 a year to the ACRD.
Kelly Gilday, Manager of Protective Services says the mass emergency notification system can inform residents and visitors about tsunamis, severe weather, power outages, missing children, or any local incidents affecting the community.
No word on exactly when the program will be made available.
