Colin Affleck is back in the community after spending almost 6 months in jail for a 6-month crime spree last fall.
The 36-year old stole more than $18,000 worth of goods from 9 local businesses.
He stole more than $2000 worth of goods from Walmart after filling up a shopping cart and pushing it out an emergency exit on six different occasions. He stole $1200 worth of groceries from No Frills after using a similar strategy on two occasions.
He stole $6000 cash from the bottle depot, stole $6300 worth of electronics from the Community Living Association, defrauded H&R Block of $942 through a fake cheque, and broke into Char’s Landing making off with more than $800 worth of alcohol.
Charlene Patterson said the B&E made her afraid and caused many sleepless nights, but she’s feeling better after seeing him sentenced.
Affleck was charged with 11-counts of theft under $5000, 3 counts of break and enter, and 2 counts of using a forged document.
Judge Ronald Webb called the spree a “horrific batch of offenses” and released Affleck after 169 days time served, which when multiplied by time and a half gave him credit of 254 days.
Affleck will have to complete 100 hours community work service and repay the 9 businesses he stole from.
None of the $18,000 worth of cash and products were ever recovered.
