Port Alberni RCMP are encouraging block watch groups after a series of break & enter cases on the weekend.
On Friday night, chainsaws and logging equipment were taken from an unlocked, white GMC pickup truck parked outside a home in the 2500 block of 15th Ave.
Saturday morning an employee discovered the door of The Attic Thrift Shop on Johnston had been forced open, and in the afternoon, police received a report that someone had kicked open a door into a home in the 2800 block of 10th Ave.
A large TV was ripped off a wall, and other items and some groceries were stolen.
Then at 1:15 Sunday morning, two men broke into the Alberni Power and Marine lot in the 3100 block of 1st Ave and stole a Mercury 9.9 HP outboard motor off of a customer’s boat.
Cpl. Amelia Hayden said Block Watch Programs can help prevent property crime as well as increase the likelihood of apprehension of the suspects committing these crimes.
