Steven Kaspers will remain in jail for almost 2 years after admitting he stabbed a man in the Johnston Road McDonalds restaurant in November 2016.
51-year old Claudio Cartegena was stabbed in the neck and twice in the chest and was airlifted to hospital in Victoria after the unprovoked attack.
The 27-year old Kaspers blamed mental health and drug addictions for the aggravated assault, and told the court he is taking anti-psychotic medication and staying away from drugs.
But when Supreme Court Justice Madam Dillon asked him when the last time he used meth was, he admitted it was just 3 days ago.
Kaspers was sentenced to 4 years in jail, which after subtracting time-served, means he has a further 21 months left in jail.
