Your taxes are going up, but the city doesn’t know by how much just yet.
As well as the 3% increase in city taxes, there is a 9% increase for regional district taxes, and an 8% increase for both the library and hospital taxes collected.
Mayor Mike Ruttan says they’re waiting to find out if there’s an increase to the school district budget, as well as other taxes the city collects for regional services like BC Assessment and 9-1-1
He says even though most assessments went up this year, they have adjusted the mill rate down so actual taxes collected won’t increase by the same rate.
Ruttan said the city has dropped the mill rate from $9.20 to $7.80 per thousand dollars of assessed value on homes and properties, and they hope to have the 2018 tax rate information available for Monday night’s regular meeting of council.
