Port Alberni RCMP say they are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the death of a 6-year old child on Tuesday.
At around 9:30 a.m. on March 13, police went to a home in Port Alberni after they received a report of a six-year-old child in medical distress.
The child was taken to a hospital and did not survive.
Representatives from the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council said they are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of the young child, who had family connections to both the Ahousaht and Hesquiaht First Nation communities.
Corporal Amelia Hayden said the police and the Coroners Service are actively investigating.
Investigators were seen combing through an 8th Avenue townhouse all day yesterday.
Hayden didn’t respond when asked if any arrests had been made in the case.
