Alberni Valley Landfill gets $6 million for compost

$6 million in federal funding is about to get dumped into the Alberni Valley Landfill.

A separate kitchen and yard waste composting area will be built, and the district will need to determine if they will purchase their own equipment or hire a contractor to do the work.

The city has already agreed to purchase three specialized garbage trucks with a separate holding area for organic waste

The compost program could also delay the implementation of a methane capture system which would cost tens of millions of dollars if required.

Alberni – Clayoquot Regional District CAO Doug Holmes says they’re excited to have been approved.

112 BC projects will share in the $193 million federal gas tax rebate program with the ACRD also receiving $196,000 for an asset management implementation project

The District of Tofino will receive more than $2 million to extend their multi use path to the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
