The city is trying to hold off Island Health from demanding the city build a water filtration system.
Major Projects Coordinator Ken Watson says China Creek and Bainbridge Lake are both excellent water sources, and the city is in the process of collecting data that Island Health should accept as proof.
Watson said the city has an agreement with Island Timberlands and other forest companies who operate in the city’s watershed, that logging activities won’t affect turbidity.
If a filtration system is required, Watson says it would cost a minimum of $40 million to build.
Meanwhile, Cherry Creek residents are under a boil water advisory after weekend storms turned their water source turbid.
People are advised to boil drinking water for at least 2 minutes prior to use and stay tuned to 93.3 The PEAK for any updates or changes.
