Port Alberni’s MP and MLA are looking for answers from those in the know.
The two politicians are hosting a dinner to discuss poverty issues, and how to lift people out of it.
Courtenay – Alberni MP Gord Johns says issues around crime and substance abuse are tied to poverty issues, and are difficult to unwrap.
He said child poverty will be a particular focus of discussion.
Johns said on average, one in seven children live in poverty in Canada, but that statistic is one in three in the Alberni Valley.
Johns said people who work in the social service field, and those affected by poverty are invited to share their ideas.
The dinner will be held at the Port Alberni Friendship Center on Friday starting at 5 pm
