Bulldogs open door to financiers

Hockey is a tough game, both on and off the ice – that according to the Port Alberni Junior Hockey Society – the community volunteers who oversee the Bulldogs.

At their Annual General Meeting last night, members heard that revenues were down 12% to $644,000, but they have matched income to expenses and had a deficit of just $500 last year.

Society President Ron Paulson said after 6 years the community group is opening up to possible investors.

He said the benefits to the community aren’t necessarily reflected on a balance sheet, as the Bulldogs bring social benefits to the community, and also create employment for their 6 new staff members.

Paulson said the society still owes the previous owners $300,000, and debts to the city and community futures are also being repaid.
