Mayors and councils from around the province are heading to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities annual convention in Vancouver this week.
Mayor Mike Ruttan says Port Alberni will be putting forward a motion that the province contract the Martin Mars Coulson Flying Tankers for fires next season.
The former Liberal Government had a strong relationship with Coulson’s main competitors – Con Air of Abbotsford – who were the recipients of the aerial firefighting contracts.
Ruttan hopes a new government will mean a new future for the iconic water bombers, as a positive vote from the UBCM often strongly influences provincial decisions.
