The Regional District has started enforcing a rule that landfill loads must be transported responsibly
Alberni Clayoquot Regional District manager Andrew McGifford says they now require all loads be tarped
McGifford says un-tarped loads will be charged a punitive rate of $240 a tonne – double the normal rate.
He said staff have only fined a couple of people so far.
The purpose of the enforcement is to cut down on garbage being found on roads leading towards the landfill.
