Bamfield speeders causing concern

The Huu-ay-aht First Nation is raising concerns about speeding on the newly chip-sealed Bamfield Road, fearing it negates efforts to improve vehicle safety.
Chief Councillor John Jack says the speed limit remains 60 km/h and must be adhered to.
“Safety and reliability are the most important things when it comes to the Bamfield Road,” he said. “We want people to take their time and slow down because now the critical safety factors are the drivers themselves and not the terrain.”
Jack says they have asked Port Alberni RCMP to police the road, but were told they currently lack resources to conduct speed checks or vehicle safety stops on the Bamfield route.
