A woman in her 60’s was airlifted to Victoria hospital with significant injuries after being hit by a truck while attempting to cross Johnston Road in a marked crosswalk yesterday morning.
Witnesses said she was struck by a white 2003 Chevrolet Crew Cab, then run over as the truck quickly sped away up Johnston Road.
Police were able to access video from area businesses as well as collect statements from witnesses.
Port Alberni RCMP received multiple tips on the suspect vehicle location and arrested the owner, who has since been released with a court date in the new year.
The victim suffered head trauma and spent last night in surgery to repair multiple broken bones.
