Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions has been working closely with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, who are in charge of the rock scaling and safety work at Cameron Bluffs.
She says the Ministry is confident they’re keeping to their timeline of a full re-opening of the highway by the end of this month.
“I had a meeting with Ministry of Transportation staff on Monday and they gave us a detailed update about where they were at and the progress they had made and the progress they needed to make,” she said. “They did feel that they are very much on track still, but they’ll know more following today’s closure, making sure that everything goes as well as it needs to.”
Minions said she’s also working closely with the Minister of Emergency Preparedness around future closures that could happen this winter.
