Rescuers respond to two calls overnight

The Alberni Valley Search and Rescue squad were busy last night, responding to a pair of calls.

Four people tubing the Somass River were reported missing yesterday evening, and after searchers were dispatched they were found at a friend’s house.

Shortly after, RCMP requested assistance finding a tourist who had become lost on Mount Anderson after leaving the trail.

Early this morning the 20-year old hiker was found and helped out by the rescue teams.

AVSAR spokesperson Richard Johns said both incidents are examples of why telling others where you’re going and when you’ll be back is important.
