Alberni beats temperature record

Environment Canada reported at least a dozen temperature records were broken in B-C yesterday, surpassing the eight that fell on Sunday.

Canada’s high was recorded near Lytton where temperatures reached 40.5 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday, Port Alberni hit an all-time temperature record for August 14th at 36.9ºC.

The old record was 36.7ºC set at the Beaver Creek station in 1933 and 1942.

Chris Alemany from alberniweather.ca says the temperature at his station in town hit 37.8 degrees yesterday, but he doesn’t expect the daily record to be beaten today.

“I don’t think we’re going to break the all-time record today which is 39 but it’s still going to be extremely hot at over 37 degrees probably,” he said.

Bulletins from the weather office show much of the coastal regions are expected to return to seasonal temperatures by tomorrow, but central and southern regions of the province will endure the heat a day or two longer.
