A fiery meeting last night at the Regional District office where more than 80 Cherry Creek residents voiced their displeasure over the proposed official community plan.
“This a joke … this is junk, we’re wasting everybody’s time, what the hell are you guys thinking?… what I’m hearing here is people are saying to stay out of our business, we can get along together without you making all these rules for us, we don’t want them … butting your noses in to what we do on our properties, so I’m a big No,” were quiotes from just four of the many speakers.
People complained about the lack of notice and communication around the meeting, and about how their community wants fewer rules, not more.
Cherry Creek Director Mike Sparrow said independence and self-determination is important to rural people.
“The bylaw regarding the amount of property you need for the usage of the property was a big one that seemed to get people going because people have just under the limit in the bylaw and that changes a lot of things in their lives, he said.
Sparrow said staff will put the transcript of last night’s 3-hour meeting into a package for the May 10th regional district board meeting.
The five other rural directors will also vote on Cherry Creek’s OCP, which was also a point of controversy at the event.
