Courtenay – Alberni MP Gord Johns reacted to people calling the latest federal budget “an NDP Budget”, saying his party obviously influenced the budget, but wanted more programs for the millions of people struggling with inflation and the cost of living now.
Johns said the NDP demand of a National Dental Plan along with the temporary doubling of GST payments will have a real benefit to people in Port Alberni.
“Able to generate the doubling of the GST rebate again which will impact 11 million people in our country, and certainly a lot of people in the Alberni Valley because we have a disproportionate amount of people who are living on fixed or low incomes and certainly that will help benefit them,” he said.
Johns said he’ll continue to focus on more help for people with addictions and mental health issues.
He said the government should be collecting more tax money from the banks and the super-rich.
