Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh was in Port Alberni yesterday, meeting with First Nations and industry reps.
He met with the Port Alberni Port Authority and Canadian Maritime Engineering, and says he will join local MP Gord Johns in calling for increased federal support for the port.
“Gord Johns has been doing a great job of pushing for the drydock expansion,” he said. “I think it’s a really important project, and having now seen the proposal and spoken with the port authority I will add my voice to support Gord Johns’ work. I think it’s a great opportunity for job creation.”
Singh said increasing boat building capacity creates jobs and also assists with supply chain issues which are being blamed for increased costs at the grocery stores and throughout the economy.
