Poppie the puppie is recovering after being dropped off at the Port Alberni SPCA in the middle of the night.
The 3-month old lab cross was found abandoned outside the kennel on October 5th according to local SPCA manager Sam Sattar.
“We had an employee come in early to take some dogs for a walk and she found her sitting in one of the planter pots out front,” he said. “She didn’t move, she just stayed in that pot. She was really super scared and she wasn’t doing too well. She just stayed there frightened until about 10 to 7 in the morning which was when we found her.”
Sattar said Poppie was treated for mange and worms, and is still under vet supervision while living in a foster home.
He said there have been multiple cases of cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs dropped off after hours over the past year, putting the animals in danger of predation.
The media attention around Poppie has generated a flurry of adoption applications.
Sattar said pets can be dropped off at the animal shelter at no charge during regular office hours.
