WCB changes “catching up”

Provincial amendments to the Workers Compensation Act in BC are long overdue according to Wolfgang Zimmerman, founder of the National Instutute for Disability Management and Research.

He said Ontario updated their return-to-work and accessibilty legislation more than 20 years ago

“This is trying to catch up and finally aligning with what we’ve been saying which is giving individuals who acquire a disability an opportunity to stay in the workforce instead of getting pushed to the margins of society, which is what happens all too often,” he said.

Zimmerman said he’s working with many different governments and corporations developing return-to-work and accessibilty policies through Pacific Coast University.

He said there are currently more than 1200 students studying virtually at the school’s main Port Alberni campus.
