Wild weather swings continue this week as an atmospheric river sweeps across the mid-island.
While the Alberni Valley was beginning to show signs of a summer drought just last week, impending rains have caused the announcement of a high stream flow-advisory today.
Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District Protective Services Manager Heather Zenner says a predicted weekend rainfall of up to 200 mm could overwhelm rivers and destabilize riverbanks, so people are urged to be cautious.
Rivers are expected to rise rapidly on the weekend and peak between Sunday or Monday, depending on rainfall timing and watershed size.
Zenner says sandbags will be available for filling at the City of Port Alberni Public Works Yard, Harold Bishop Firehall, and Beaver Creek Firehall.
