For the first time in 15 years, Port Alberni has a two-term Mayor.
Incumbent Sharie Minions is returning to the Mayor’s chair after a campaign marred by online mud-slinging and negativity.
Minions said she’s happy to be continuing her role as Mayor, but found it difficult to wade through lies about her family and misinformation about city projects during the campaign.
She said she’s learned better communication is required from council and city hall.
Minions said she’s looking forward to working with a new council but said she’ll miss departing council members Dan Washington and Ron Paulson who failed to earn re-election.
She beat challenger Tom Verbrugge by just 166 votes in an election where only one third of eligible municipal voters participated.
