More than a hundred people showed up for a meeting with city council candidates at the casino last night.
It was the lastest in a series of sessions sponsored by the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce.
AVCOC Executive Director Bill Collette said there was strong support for the direction the city has been heading.
“What I heard quite a bit of was support for the council of today,” he said. “I heard that message quite loud and clear from obviously the current councillors but also people running for council. They seemed to support where we’re at which I thought was a good message. Speaks well about our stability as a community.”
Collette said that stability is important to people looking to invest in Port Alberni.
“They’ve got to know that this community is going forward; not going to stall; not going backwards,” he said. “Stability is critical. Vital.”
The Chamber is hosting another candidates meeting tonight which will include presentations by the two mayoral candidates.
It starts at 7pm at the Rim Rock Casino.
