Mayor asks Minister for detox facility

City Council now has their sights set on a detox centre.
Mayor Sharie Minions said once the 4th Avenue tiny homes development is complete, they’re going to begin pursuit of a larger project.
“When I was at the UBCM last week, one of the conversations I had with the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions was about the need for complex care and detox beds in our community. A permanent facility could incorporate those options,” she said. “Certainly it is intended to be supportive housing but the level of support that’s provided is still up for discussion. We’ll be working with service providers and BC Housing to determine exactly what’s needed and offer support through land and DCC reduction.”
Minions said there are many supports for people with addictions, but more options are needed for detox and transition programs.
