Sleeping Pod project delayed

Plans to build tiny homes and sleeping pods on lower Fourth Avenue have been delayed by red tape and increased costs.
The Port Alberni Friendship Centre agreed to take the lead on the project, using city land donated to house people currently living in illegal campers and trailers next door.
PAFC Executive Director Cyndi Stevens told Ha-Shilth-Sa newspaper that finalizing a lease agreement with the city has taken longer than expected, and costs on building the structures has increased by $5000 each, forcing them to trim a planned 30 homes, down to 15.
Stevens said they hoped to have places for people to move into on October 1st, but that’s now been pushed back by a month.
